SHOWCASING NEW TALENT

14th May

Delamore is committed to showcasing fresh and dynamic talent and this year is no exception. We are very fortunate to be exhibiting an array of paintings and sculpture by up and coming artists that continue to engage and delight our visitors. Cornwall based Rob Braybrooks is one such artists. Rob has created a series of paintings for Delamore using the medium of wood relief birch. Depicting seasonal patterns and habitats of fauna and flora in West Cornwall's beautiful outdoor environment, Rob uses minimal, high contrast media of light wood and dark paint to capture silhouettes created as the sun is low in the sky. The result is both clever and striking. You can see more of Rob's work following the link below.

THE NUTS AND BOLTS OF IT......

10th May

If you have already visited Delamore's sculpture gardens you may caught site of the stunning 'Bolt' sculpture created by Karl Wilby and Dan Fermor. The Bolt sculpture was created especially for Delamore Arts 2012 and is situated near the avenue leading to the cromlech. The piece took over a week to complete on site at Delamore and is a striking vision.

' I have been sculpting since about 1990' Karl tells Delamore Arts 'my preferred materials are stone, metal and wood and I am continually developing my ideas and skills through various projects and commissions. I enjoy using traditional tools and methods as well as using more modern techniques'

In the past Karl has worked as a special effects artist and prop maker and has been involved in various building and restoration projects. Karl also collaborates with other artists creating art for festival sites, public events and organisations. His sculptures are primarily figurative and he believes he is mainly influenced and inspired by nature, technology science, cave paintings and cartoons.

The 'Bolt' can be viewed throughout Delamore's month long exhibition.

30th April

Delamore Arts will be opening to the public on Tuesday 1st May. Gates will be open from 10.30am - 4.30pm.

The weekend's severe weather conditions, which resulted in a number of trees coming down on the Delamore estate, sadly meant the artist preview show had to be called off. SPECTACULAR ART PROJECT TAKES SHAPE AT DELAMORE

26th April

Today Delamore's Gavin Dollard spoke to Radio Devon about the forthcoming exhibition and the spectacular art project currently taking place at Delamore House. It's already sparked some interesting debates. You can listen to the interview on BBC I-Player by following this link (interview can be heard at 2:31:35)

Re-knowned Artist Henry Bruce is undertaking his largest possibly most controversial art project to date in the grounds of the Delamore Estate. As part of the art and sculpture exhibition at Delamore Henry will paint a massive skeletal 21 metre high oak tree flourescent pink to celebrate the beauty of nature and the evolving life of trees.

Delamore founder Gavin Dollard hopes the project will also highlight the issue of the destructive phytophthora, known as 'plant destroyer and the lack of action to deal with the consequences of the disease. "Landowners across the South West are felling seven square miles of Japanese Larch to combat the tree killing fungus which was discovered in 2002" says Gavin  "Nearly 1000 acres of infected larch have been removed by the Foestry Commission, while private landowners have been ordered to fell 4000 acres of timber by March, some 300,000 tons. There is no compensation whatsoever for landowners, The sculpture will make the issue facing landowners known to the public".

DELAMORE ARTS WELCOMES BRITISH POP ARTIST COLIN SELF

25th April

We are lucky to have so many talented artists this year and with such a variety of styles and subjects. Amongst our artists this year is Colin Self. We are lucky to be able to showcase some of Colin Self's etchings 'From the Springs Fireplace Road' suite. Colin is a pre-eminent British Pop Artist, who was a student at The Slade from 1961–63, a contemporary of David Hockney and Peter Blake. In 2009 Hockney, while discussing that year’s Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, described Colin Self as ‘the best draftsman in British art living today’.

Self’s work is held in major collections worldwide, including the Tate Gallery, and figures in the exhibition currently running at Tate Liverpool co-curated by Marianne Faithfull and featuring artists such as Francis Bacon,Robert Mapplethorpe and Lucian Freud.

This series of etchings is part of a suite of 30 produced over the past few years. A number of editions in the suite have sold out. Each image is ingeniously created from found objects or is based on earlier drawings by the artist, and incorporate a variety of etching techniques. These signed etchings are created in very small editions, limited by the nature of the original materials employed in making them: ‘Green Man’ for instance was etched on to the centre of an engraved copper tray; ‘Hot Dog’ on to a box of dates.

DELAMORE ARTS ANNOUNCES 'CELEBRATION OF BRITISH SCULPTURE' FOR ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW

28th September

The West Country's Biggest Sculpture Garden and Art Exhibition invites leading and up and coming sculptors to exhibit in May 2012

Art@Delamore, the South West's leading Sculpture and Arts Exhibition has announced that to celebrate its 10th successful year, there will be a special focus on British outdoor sculpture in the grounds of its beautiful Estate, and is inviting local and National talent to contribute.

In previous years more than 100 artists and sculptors, from Henry Moore prize winners to up and coming new talent, have been selected to exhibit at the annual Art@Delamore exhibition in the stunning gardens of the Delamore Estate in the foothills of Dartmoor.   The gardens, originally laid out in the Victorian era, are home to an array of stunning century old rhododendrons.

“Every year, the feedback is that it our sculpture and gardens are what really makes our event magical,” said Delamore's Founder and Director, Gavin Dollard. “The grounds are outstanding offering an unparalleled opportunity to showcase work in a unique and beautiful environment. So to celebrate our 10 anniversary, we have decided to focus on sculpture and surprise and delight our followers with a very special show – which we hope will include some very big names.”

The popular Cornwood-based event, which runs every day in May, is open to the public, and features an eclectic mix of regional and national names in the art and sculpture world, who exhibit their work in the exclusive setting of Delamore Estate's beautiful rooms and grounds.

“We would like to invite sculptors from across the UK to participate. It presents a once a year opportunity to showcase a large selection of some of the year's most outstanding outdoor sculpture by living sculptors, all in one place. We allow the sculptors to curate their exhibits in the garden, so that they can be 'discovered' by visitors as they explore our grounds. It gives quite a magical feel, which is more representative of how sculptures can enhance a garden or estate, than just a display in a gallery.”

“While we will be really celebrating sculpture, we won't be forgetting our ever popular art exhibition. Last year we had over 7,500 visitors, purchasing over 300 pieces of Art & Sculpture, including work from child genius artist Kieron Williamson.  We pride ourselves on bringing a fresh, thought-provoking, diverse, collection of Art to the public each year and 2012 will be no exception.”

Based at Cornwood, near Ivybridge in South Devon, the Art@Delamore exhibition is hosted on the Delamore estate, home to the family since 1688.  Two of the principal rooms of the house (built in 1859) are used as galleries for hanging paintings.  Immense windows provide excellent natural light and make for a superb gallery where visitors have the opportunity to view paintings at leisure within the atmosphere of this impressive country house.  Meanwhile the gardens, which are rarely open to the public, provide a striking backdrop for sculpture large and small, from Henry Moore Foundation prize-winners to emerging artists.

To enter sculptors and artists need to email admin@delamore-arts.co.uk

More news is available on Twitter @DelamoreArts

The exhibition will be open every day throughout May.

4th April 2011

Sophie Thompson's horse sculptures made a majestic entrance at Delamore on Sunday. The three metre high sculptures swept into the Delamore drive with an echo of the mythical Trojan horse. However these particular pieces, 'Celestial' and 'Thoroughbred' are made of steel and recycled metal respectively (photos right). Delamore awaits further exciting deliveries within the next few weeks, ahead of the exhibition which launches on the 1st May. You can see a video of the scultures arrival here "http://www.youtube.com/embed/a9KB7T0Zgbs"

ARTISTS NAMED FOR  DELAMORE 2011

February 2011

Art@Delamore has confirmed that this year over 100 painters and sculptors will have their work exhibited at the annual Art@Delamore exhibition.

Gavin Dollard, Director Delamore Arts, comments “Our aim is to present affordable art by living artists, so it was reassuring that last year we had over 7,600 visitors who purchased over 320 pieces of Art & Sculpture, as well as visited the gardens, which I guess must mean we are doing something right.  We pride ourselves on bringing a fresh, thought-provoking, diverse, collection of Art to the public each year and 2011 will be no exception.”

Amongst the artists, announced as exhibiting, are Richard Snowden and Sarah Ingleby-Mackenzie, Anthony Veale, Paul Vanstone and Pippa Unwin.

During the last eight years the exhibition has raised over £70,000 for South West charities, and this year is pleased to announce it will be supporting St Luke’s Hospice, Plymouth.  The Hospice is dedicated to providing highly specialised palliative for patients who have terminal or life-limiting illnesses, as well as offering support to relatives.  As part of the fund-raising, local artist Michael Morgan has donated ‘Moorland Farmhouse’, a rare first artist’s proof which has never been released as a limited edition.  The print will be raffled during the course of the month long exhibition, with proceeds going to St. Luke’s.
