The Artist - Susan Eckles
The main area of exploration in my work is the human form and I always work from direct observation of a live model. After a number of small maquettes the final study is made with slabs of clay joined together to create hollow forms. This aids the firing process and removes the necessity for hollowing out the finished piece. My recent work has moved forward in the making of more abstract sculptures, capturing the essence of the form. A growing confidence in this development has led to the casting of certain abstract pieces in Bronze and Portland Stone. All ceramic work is fired to stoneware temperatures and is suitable for external display.
