The Artist - Philip Ross
Working in stone provides me with a medium I can make morph from one shape into another; make a sharp edge into a soft curve and create troughs and hollows that catch the light and shade. Stone provides the most tactile polished surface, sensual to touch. I am inspired by rock eroded by the action of the sea and sand, by tension and twists in tree trunks and by the structures left in fallen, mighty oak tree roots as they slowly rot in the woods. My work reflects these natural forms and refines them. An abstract expression of a spiritual experience with nature.
