Bird on Reed
Stainless Cutlery and rusted Steel
The Artist - Edward Hill
Inspiration comes to me from the natural world. My preferred medium is reclaimed metal. It offers me interesting shapes, colours and textures. For example, the red squirrels in this exhibition are deliberately rusty to imitate the colour of their coat, and I have used stainless steel for their white underside. My sculptures usually try to capture life and movement. The squirrels offer this with their dynamic movements, and it makes for a great show of their energetic behaviour. The wire/barbed wire gave me opportunity to capture this motion, with the use of flowing lines, similar to that of a cartoon.
