The Artist - Jane Villaweaver
Born in Whitchurch, Shropshire, Jane studied Fine Art at Cheltenham School of Art and went on to study Experimental Textiles at the Royal College of Art, London. ‘The Art of Service’ is a new series of work that takes its inspiration from table refinement. These constructed still lifes of inanimate objects express my ideas of a relationship between etiquette and irony. Using a variety of materials, techniques and processes, the to-scale representations of cutlery forms and shapes are playfully recreated and exploited. They appear aged by time, worn from use, forgotten, their characteristics and imperfections are adapted and transformed. It is this manipulation, the physical intervention and process of making through exploration and personal enquiry that stimulates my imagination. When the pieces come together they make an intriguing still life that hopefully engages the viewer to connect with the narrative.
