The Artist - Heather Swain
Heather studied for a Ceramics B.A. at the West of England College of Art-now University of West of England in Bristol, graduating in 1970. Moving to Cornwall, and after a family break, her pottery was started in the 1980’s. Working in her garden studio gives great pleasure and inspiration as does the rural setting, the farm environment and the sea and coastal views. “ I enjoy making work that is attractive, colourful and good to use. “ All tableware is made in , terra cotta, earthenware clay that is coated in white slip. It is painted in under- glaze colours, with a transparent glaze. The featured animals are applied in relief to each piece individually. Heather has consistently exhibited in the U.K. for over twenty eight years and her designs have stood the test of time. Her toastracks are included in the Collectors guide to British Ceramic toastracks.
