The Artist - Lucy Lutyens
I live on an organic farm near Colchester and have been exhibiting professionally for 10 years. My work is inspired by objects found in my rural environment, reduced to abstracted sculptural forms that have a birdlike or botanical essence but family is also a key driving force and resonates throughout my work. Once the initial idea for a sculpture is mapped out it seems to take on a life of its own and my hands are purely the tool. It feels very meditative, as if the work is coming from within. Much of my work starts with me carving into foam. After the main shape has evolved I work in plaster or fibreglass and resin which is very robust and allows me to push the work to a far more delicate place.
