Two Red Towels

Clare Pumfrey is an artist based in Devon. She works on paper and canvas, using a mixture of materials including soluble graphite, acrylic paints, compressed charcoal, ink and felt pen. She combines an observational approach to the human form with an interest in visual textures and the unique properties of materials, with an emphasis on the final image surface; sometimes this involves exploring the potential of losing the image in the process and regaining it, profiting from the development of traces. She was a professional ceramic conservator/restorer, running her own business, before coming to Devon a few years ago.
