The Artist - Sheila Madder
Two main philosophies, The Slow Movement, and Emotionally Durable Design inspire my work. The pots have been created with this in mind. The Slow Movement advocates a cultural shift towards slowing down life’s pace. It is a cultural revolution against the notion that faster is always better and that doing everything as well as possible, instead of as fast as possible leads to quality over quantity in everything from work to food to parenting. My work aims to create a connection with the user to the piece, causing the user to want to slow down and enjoy their food or drink. Emotionally Durable Design seeks to reduce waste, landfill and consumption. I aspire to create a connection between the pot and user through the use of touch. With my “fingerprints” carved in to them, the user may develop a bond with the piece over time reducing the desire to replace it and so reduce landfill and waste.
