The Artist - Ollie Holman
I make sculptures to engage and change the perception of the notoriously rigid material that is steel. Varying from fluid, linear life-size animals made from steel round bar to horseshoe horse heads meticulously arranged by eye. I work independently from my workshop in North Yorkshire, where Iíve been fine-tuning my style for the past five years. I hope the pieces show I have an intuitive sense of space and form, with the ability to use just minimal lines to trick the brain into seeing recognizable faces whether that be bulls or stags. Each sculpted steel bar has to be precisely aligned to portray the animal from not just one but multiple angles, making the process of sculpting them extremely challenging but also very rewarding on completion. I hope you view these pieces in a new light and they inspire you to think differently about space, form, and steel.
