The Artist - Bex Bourne
I work from my studio which is in an old granite quarry not far from Falmouth, Cornwall. My inspiration is drawn from the rural life around me – I keep chickens, walk the dog about the fields, stomp off along the coast path... sit in the sun with friends, tend my garden, warm myself by the log burner...When we first rebuilt this studio (it's the old cutting shed from when the quarry was in use), everything was very much so an industrial landscape... remnants of this remain, however now gardens have sprung up - tulips and daffodils galore in the spring, gorse and growing vegetables in the summer, apples in the young orchard come autumn... only in winter when everything dies back do the industrial remnants return. My work is created with images made from gouache, watercolour and coloured pencil... then finely cut with a scalpel, and mounted on different levels to give depth. Recently I have also started writing, my first book being available from summer 2021.
