The Artist - Jenny Distin
For 35 years I have created unique wood sculptures by endeavouring to carve 'whatever the wood wants to be' but "Dangerous Liaison" carved itself! This ancient Ashwood was tantalizingly secretive. For months, like a diamond-cutter, I calculated my initial sawcut . . . . the sawblade buckled s-shaped . . . wood finally parted . . and 2 figures stepped out, fully formed, in period attire - telling their own story. A beautiful Tasmanian burrwood inspired "The Quest" celebrating plant-hunter Marianne North. Her gallery in Kew Gardens displays her botanical paintings and 250 wood samples she collected. - My heroine! "The Other Side of Me" is my response to Covid 19 lockdowns - you may empathise?
