Cottage Garden

There are two strands to my practice; one predominantly in gouache and watercolour and the other in oil and acrylics on a larger scale. Within both mediums I use naïve and primitive techniques to express my ideas, which are often decorative. My techniques originally began during my training in Theatre design which included set and costume design. I had to work from my imagination which is how my style developed. Stage design continues to influence my work because I still use narrative, mood and atmosphere as inspiration. Many of my ideas are drawn from music, literature and ballets; these are entwined with countryside landscapes, gardens and scenes, as well as coastal towns.
