The Artist - Olivia Clifton Bligh MRBS

I am a sculptor working in bronze, paper, wax and clay. My work explores the rich metaphorical language of oral narrative traditions. ‘Bee Speaker’ refers to an ancient symbolic association between bees and rebirth, and the bee keepers traditional practice of informing their beehives of births, marriages and deaths within their community. ‘Stone Sisters’ celebrates the muse and the female form, the oldest of sculptural subjects, through contemporary construction workers in Asia. I studied Art and Art History at Goldsmiths' College (BA Hons 1990-93). I am a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors; I won the Althea Wynne award for sculpture in 2014, and the Bath Society of Artists prize for sculpture in 2020; and I am a resident artist at Bull Mill Arts Wiltshire (2001-2022).
