The Magnificence of Dartmoor

I studied in London prior to teaching in some vibrant art departments in the South and East of the capital. Some of that time, I specialised in textile design and printing; that core interest is still prevalent in my evolving work to date. I strive to convey the essence of what excites me in both natural and man made structures. The interaction of strength and delicacy that is found in the granite landscape of Dartmoor resonates with me. The sensitive ageing of stone contrasts with often vibrant lichens and mosses to make a complex tapestry which is the basis for my semi-abstract work. Often I make my own paints from pure pigments with a variety of other media, such as marble dust, sand and iron. This enables me to make assemblages in a considered and innovative manner to achieve the results that I seek.
