Rustry Red Protea

I am a self-taught artist who came the world of sculpture relatively late. Now the bug has bitten I feel like I’m incurable. I have a background in the construction industry and so have brought a fair degree of “mixed media” skills to my sculpture. I primarily work with mild steel and I love the endless possibilities it affords. Scale, colour and shape are all factors to be tinkered with. I also like to incorporate glass and other metals (copper, stainless steel) as these vastly increase the range of finishes and effects I can play with. Whilst living in South Africa I “discovered” their national flower – The Protea – and that has become a favourite of mine. The sheer breadth of variety within the Protea family has been a continual source of inspiration and it gives a licence to go a little off-piste occasionally. I also build furniture, water features, gates, staircases… so I’m always open to bespoke commissions.
