Head in the Clouds

This new series comes from many ideas that are merging. Cocoon, a new series I am planning that will be an environmental art project for 2024, set in a forest at Devon Sculpture Park, has sparked ideas centring around the concepts of nurture, growth and transformation. Chalice, a vessel for holding liquid also murmurs of the womb, the ultimate chalice, that holds the unborn in it’s waters and allows for growth and transformation. Alabaster to me is the perfect medium for this being translucent so as to be aware that something may be inside but also what is inside is unclear. Personally I think the form is a beautiful one, and the sculpture should be touched for its sensuous smoothness. The carved groove at the ‘front’ suggests the female…
