John’s work is simultaneously beautiful and thought provoking. Using plastic fragments collected from south-west beaches, each piece entices the viewer to consider the impact of humans on our environment. Washed up, often after many years being degraded by the action of the ocean, these remnants of products, packaging and the fishing industry now have renewed value as works of art. Sometimes minimal, sometimes awash with colour, each of John’s creations brings order where once there was chaos, whilst at the same time providing a record of, and a commentary on our consumable way of life. John believes that art should not only provoke a reaction but should also bring joy, turning despair into hope, and anger into positive action.
