Ups and Downs

I’m originally from Manchester, moving to the South East to study and work for many years before moving to Devon and devoting more of my time to wood turning. From my small workshop in the South Hams I produce many forms of wood turned items and I’m particularly drawn to creating unique pieces. I like to use collected local wood for these pieces, as they have natural knots, cracks and often a more defined and irregular grain pattern. The storage of the fallen or newly cut wood is an artform in itself and can take years to be in a perfect condition to turn into something beautiful. I like to use coloured resins to enhance the grain of the wood. The final piece will have been dictated by the wood itself and has a natural warmth and a silky finish.
