The Artist - Kate Hipkiss
Kate graduated in Visual Arts: Drawing from Camberwell College of Arts in 2003. After a time managing independent galleries she completed an MFA in 2020 and is currently researching for a PhD by Practice. Kate uses a scalpel to cut paper by hand to create layers, series and multiples. There are two distinct strands to her work; the first uses documents and books from the public domain to create sculptures that challenge our understanding of the role of these documents and facilitate an exploration of individual and collective memory. The second strand is layered landscapes and townscapes that use flat areas of colour and occasional detail to create an impression of the landscape and a sense of quiet. Kate’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including the RA Summer Exhibition, the Viviane Fontaine International Paper Triennial in Switzerland and the Paper Fibre Art Biennial in Taiwan.
