The Artist - Janet Burnett
My stoneware ceramics are mostly thrown but larger pieces are sometimes coiled or slab built. Once bisque fired, I decorate using a wax-resist technique which leaves part of each piece with exposed natural clay. Although my ceramics are decorative, the nature of stoneware firing means they are durable and can be used as practical vessels. I worked as a commercial designer for 28 years and developed a love for illustration during that time. My ceramic work leans on my illustrative skills and has become my trade mark. Many of my pieces are fired using a Staffordshire Blue glaze and decorated with imagery inspired by the nature of Cornwall. My studio is on the edge of Bodmin Moor which can be wild but is always beautiful.
