The Artist - Jane Chetwynd SWAc
For over 30 years, I have worked in arts education, including Falmouth University and the University of the Arts London. I have organised exhibitions and before teaching worked as a freelance textile artist/designer. My work has been shown nationally, most notably with the RWA and as part of the Jerwood Drawing Prize. The patina of human or elemental intervention, found in partially decayed or eroded objects inform my work. Capturing the essence of something broken, used, redundant, yet complete in its portrayal of time and place is central to my practice. The immediate, close landscape at our feet where you can find remnants of previous lives and other times, sparks my curiosity. By incorporating some of these fragments into work, the delicate balance between past and present is explored as part of a tangible continuum of our existence. My work in this exhibition is in relief and is designed to be hung on a wall or free standing.
