The Artist - Janet Mitchell SWAc
My days are spent, as are most people’s, managing the routine tasks of daily living. Fitting in between, under and over this, my thoughts are concerned with images that might come to fruition as a piece of art. I make collages out of old cotton or linen, dyed and waxed, then stitched or knotted together. Some of the collages are recognisable as people and some are abstract impressions of landscapes, weather patterns or gardens. Just now I am looking at faces, iconic representations of people around me: portraits real or imagined. Sometimes a bird runs into view, occasionally an animal. I keep looking. Group exhibitions include the RA, RWA Bristol, RWS, Mall Galleries, Oxford University and Brighton University.
