The Artist - Jordan Eastwood

Jordan Eastwood is a self-taught, emerging artist based on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon. Working with pastel, charcoal, and stone, Eastwood explores the psychological terrain between vulnerability and self-protection. Rooted in lived experience of mental health, Eastwood’s work aims to transform personal introspection into shared understanding. Through figure drawings and expressive sculpture, he examines how emotion inhabits the body, and how those internal states can be expressed in light, colour and form. His stone carvings explore themes of voluntary isolation and self-preservation that arise from the weight of mental health struggles. Each figure sits between openness and withdrawal, reflecting the tension between the need for human connection and the instinct to self preserve. Carved from locally sourced Devon Stone slate, the material itself mirrors these contrasts, being both uniquely beautiful and uniquely difficult to work with. Its natural bands of grey flow like contour lines across the figures, while the high iron content of the soil in which it’s found, gives it a warm patina on the surface, producing red and yellow tones and the occasional glint of fool’s gold.
