Rhys Gower is a stonemason and sculptor working under the name Artistry in Stone. His work is shaped by years spent working directly with stone in architectural and heritage environments where material knowledge, patience and physical labour are essential. Before focusing on sculptural practice, Rhys worked extensively in traditional stonework and restoration, contributing to historic sites in collaboration with organisations including English Heritage, the National Trust and British Waterways. This experience continues to inform his approach, grounding the work in making rather than theory. Working primarily in stone, Rhys creates hand-carved sculptures that sit between function and object. His practice often incorporates integrated tools or naturally occurring fossils allowing process, labour and geological time to remain visible within the finished work. The work embraces weight, imperfection, and permanence. Each piece is carved by hand and conceived as a singular object intended to be used, lived with and experienced over time.
