Sara Evans explores the complexities of psychology, culture, society, and the human condition with ceramic sculpture as her primary tool of expression. The inner being busts explore ideas of an external identity shown to the world, coupled with a hidden internal emotion contained in a niche in their chests. With the standing figure sculptures, private feelings have been made manifest as a masklike structure. They stand, almost defiantly, inviting an interaction with the viewer. The pieces are very simply finished with judicious amounts of glaze and a wash of copper oxide which unites the playful yet enigmatic nature of these linked series. Sara works from her studio in Dawlish where she also teaches regular classes and workshops.
